We are enjoying almost the last spell of winter. The hot summer season is only a few weeks away with its length and intensify effects. We need to do something to save our homes from the intense heat effects while saving money in the process.

There is nothing worse than trying to relax while feeling yourself closest to hell. Enjoying the summer heat is not as fun as it first sounds. Instead of using expensive ways to cool down our homes, here are a few tips to keep a room cool without air conditioner.

1-  Cover your window

Placing curtains or blinds upon windows keep the sun out of entering your home. The sunlight directly increases the temperature of a room, so it needs to be kept away. Closed blinds help to keep the indoor temperature lower. You can also put a long shade outside your window to block the afternoon sun from entering your room.

2-  Use the ice trick

What about using a cheap trick to keep your room cooler? Fill a mixing bowl with ice and place it in front of a large fan so you can enjoy chilled mist while the air whips off the ice.

3-  Hang a wet sheet

This probably is the lowest cost idea to enjoy cool breeze. Hang a large wet sheet in front of an open window and let the cool air lower down the room’s temperature instantly.

4-  Make less use of light

The more you make use of electric bulbs and lights, the more they make your room warmer. Keeping the lights off not only cuts down your bill but also reduces the penetration of extra heat into your room.

5-  Paint your walls in lighter color

The light color helps a lot with reflection. So, painting your walls in lighter shades will really make your home cooler.

6-  Use the shades of plants

Planting is a long-term process that absorbs the maximum amount of heat from the surroundings. Shade providing plants and trees in front of a window cools down the temperature of a room at maximum level.

7-  Make maximum use of exhaust fans

Exhaust fans really decrease the room temperature and you can probably switch them on at the warmest part of the day.
