Islamabad: The Western Route is part of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and it would be completed on priority basis to boost less-developed areas of KPK and Balochistan Provinces, The Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform said.

A spokesman also dismissed the published article “Western route not part of CPEC," and said that the statement is completely incorrect and baseless.

Western route includes Peshawar to Burhan, Hakla Yarik, Dera Ismail Khan - Mughalkot, Zhob - Quetta to Hoshab and Gwadar sections.

Construction work on the Hakla-D.I. Khan section is underway and it is expected to be completed in 2019.

Remaining sections, Zhob to Kutchlak and Quetta, and Quetta to Sohrab are in initial feasibility study stages.

A number of development resourcefulness in Balochistan under CPEC are in different stages of planning and implementation

Ministry Spokesman also said that considerations are underway to establish Oil City at Gwadar to promote oil development and sea food along the coastal area.
