ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday restricted the authority of ‘Patwaris’ (land revenue officials) in urban cities on possession record of properties.

The Chief Justice of Supreme Court heard the case on patwaris authority as land revenue/record officers who maintain and update ownership records for land and undertake tax collection. 

The Chief Justice said that the world is exploring space and moon, whereas the property record system could not be computerized & managed in Pakistan.

The court will not identify verbal agreements and property deals in urban areas any more where the Punjab Land Revenue Act is being followed, the court observed.

Properties shall only be transferred through the Land Revenue Act, The Chief Justice of Pakistan said, while asking legitimacy of drafting property transfer actions and deeds.
