ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan banned Pakistan Railways from trading or selling Railways land in federal and provinces.

The order was issued by a bench, headed by Supreme Court of Pakistan Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar while hearing a case related to illegal occupancy of the Pakistan Railways’ land. The Supreme Court order prevents sell of land under usage by the railways.

The Supreme court also barred Pakistan Railways from building housing schemes. 

“The Pakistan Railways cannot lease land owned by center and province for more than five years whereas land not required for railways operation can be leased for five years,” it said.

Federal Minister for Pakistan Railways Sheikh Rasheed said that land will not be auctioned, however, Ministry wanted to lease railways land to overwhelmed ongoing deficit issues.
